Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (July 2024) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide. There’s been some reworking of the initial sections, and the order of the products is now (more or less) alphabetical. There’s a newly-formatted Base and Attach licences table on page 4 which now includes prices, and the brand-new Customer Service Premium and Dynamics 365 Contact Center licences are added throughout.

Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide

There’s an updated (June 2024) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide, with a lot of small tidying-up type changes which are pretty well documented in the Change Log on page 63.

The biggest change is the definition of an external user on page 43 which now states that a contractor or agent typically won’t work onsite for the customer every working day, or for more than 30 hours on average per week.

There’s an updated (January 2024) Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises Licensing Guide. There aren’t major updates, just a few changes to the Configuration Components section on page 8.

There’s an updated (February 2024) Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide. Finance Premium and Field Service Contractor licenses are added to the Base and Attach licenses table on pages 4 and 5, and Copilot for Sales and Copilot for Service offerings are added to page 31. There’s an updated-for-Windows 11 (April 2023) Desktop Operating Systems Licensing Guide. It’s a useful document covering the different Windows editions, device and user licensing options, as well as downgrade rights and Volume Licensing Activation.

Azure Arc-enabled SQL Managed Instance Licensing Guide

There’s a new (September 2022) Microsoft Licensing Guide for Azure Arc-enabled SQL Managed Instance. It gives you an overview of the service tiers, and explains how to license containers, how the billing under different connectivity modes works, how to use the Azure Hybrid Benefit, and the licensing for non-production use.

SQL Server 2022 licensing

There’s a new SQL Server 2022 Licensing Guide (http://bit.ly/3OeDYqT) and Datasheet (http://bit.ly/3V0dETI), and the Product Terms is also updated (http://bit.ly/3prduoo) for SQL Server 2022. Here are the key licensing changes to be aware of:

  • Licensing by virtual machine with Core licenses is now an SA/Software Subscription benefit
  • When licensing by virtual machine a customer can run SQL Server in any number of containers in the virtual machine
  • Customers with active SA/Software Subscriptions may now use Azure SQL Managed Instance as their preferred fail-over server option in Azure for disaster recovery

SQL Server 2022 licenses with SA or purchased as Software Subscriptions are also eligible for the Flexible Virtualization Benefit, introduced in October 2022, enabling customers to use their licences with any Authorized Outsourcer’s shared hardware.
