Licensing Microsoft Teams Rooms

The important components of Microsoft Teams Room (from a licensing perspective) are the Microsoft Teams Rooms system controlling things inside the room, and a Teams Panel showing availability outside the room. To license the Microsoft Teams Room system you’ve got a choice of two Microsoft Teams Rooms licenses – the Basic license and the Pro license. The Basic license is free (acquired through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center as a $0 SKU), and restricted to 25 users, while the Pro license is a paid-for license with more functionality, as shown in the table below. The Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license doesn’t include any calling minutes, and so these need to be added if there’s a requirement to make and receive PSTN calls.

Let’s now add a Teams Panel into the equation. If you have both a Microsoft Teams Room System AND a Teams Panel you must use a Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro license and that will cover both devices. If you ONLY have a Teams Panel – perhaps it’s a simpler meeting room with just a screen – then you use the Teams Shared Space license for the Teams Panel.
