Teams Phone Mobile

Overview

Teams Phone Mobile is another option for providing PSTN connectivity with Teams Phone. Here the PSTN carrier is a mobile network operator (MNO) providing cellular voice and SIM services, certified as part of the Teams Phone Mobile program. The end result is that a user’s company-owned, SIM-enabled mobile/cell phone number can also serve as the user’s official Teams phone number, without compromising security and compliance.

The service integrates with your mobile/cell phone, meaning:

  • Phone calls use the operator’s cellular voice network, and don’t rely on Wi-Fi or mobile data
  • You use the native phone dialer interface without requiring the Teams app
  • Your call status and presence information integrate with Teams
  • Call history and voicemail integrate between Teams and your phone

Licensing

Each user must be licensed for Teams Phone Standard, either via the standalone license or through a plan that includes it, and they also need an eligible mobile/cell subscription. Administrators manage the configuration in the Teams Admin Center.

History

Teams Phone Mobile was previously known as Operator Connect Mobile, rebranded by Microsoft in 2022.
