Overview

Teams Phone is licensed via a Teams Phone Standard license. Office 365 E5 and Microsoft 365 E5/E7 licenses include rights to Teams Phone Standard. Alternatively, you can purchase it as an Add-on User SL for any of the following prerequisite licenses:

  • Teams Essentials/Enterprise/EEA
  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium
  • Office 365 E1/E3 or F3
  • Microsoft 365 E3 or F1/F3

Although Frontline Worker licenses are valid prerequisites for the regular Teams Phone Standard license, note that there’s a dedicated, lower-cost Microsoft Teams Phone Standard for Frontline Workers license, with prerequisites of Office 365 F3 or Microsoft 365 F1/F3.

History

Microsoft 365 Business Voice was a bundle of Phone System, Audio Conferencing, and a Calling Plan targeted at SMB customers with up to 300 users. There was also a version of Microsoft 365 Business Voice without a Calling Plan intended for markets where Calling Plans were not available. Both versions were retired in June 2022, and customers now purchase the individual components as required.

Microsoft planned a corresponding offer for larger businesses called Microsoft 365 Enterprise Voice which consisted of the same components: Phone System, Audio Conferencing, and a Calling Plan. It was due to be available on August 1, 2020 but was actually never launched. If you’re curious, you can see that it was added to the August 2020 Product Terms and then deleted – apart from the entries in the Index where you’ll see there was due to be a Plan 1 and a Plan 2 available.
