Webinars

Overview

Webinars are structured, two-way interactive virtual events designed for presenters to share ideas or provide training. They support durations of up to 30 hours and can accommodate up to 1,000 attendees.

Unlike standard Meetings, Webinars offer hosts additional controls, including attendee registration, themed event pages, and the ability to manage attendees’ microphone and camera permissions.

Licensing

Webinar organizers need to be licensed. Microsoft’s Modern Work Plan Comparison documents confirm that users can organize a Webinar if they’re licensed with any of the following Office 365/Microsoft 365 plans aimed at SMB or Enterprise users:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium
  • Office 365 E1/E3/E5
  • Microsoft 365 E3/E5 or Microsoft 365 F1/F3

Webinar capabilities are not included for Teams Essentials licenses, and although Webinar capabilities were added to Teams Enterprise licenses in April 2026, the website is not updated as of May 2026.

There are no licensing requirements for Webinar attendees, who only require an invite to join.

History

Prior to Microsoft’s Teams licensing updates from April 1, 2026, advanced features for Webinars required a Teams Premium license.
