Teams spaces

Overview

Bookable desks

If you have desk spaces that you want to make bookable then you use the Teams Shared Space license. One of these licenses, in effect, licenses you for 4 bookable desks. What actually happens, in reality, is that when you buy a single Teams Shared Space license you can then acquire a further 3 Teams Shared Space – Single Space licenses. These are $0 SKUs acquired through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center which can then be assigned to individual desks. If you’ve already used a Teams Shared Space license to license a Teams Panel (or one of the other Teams devices), then you can’t acquire the Teams Shared Space – Single Space licenses without first purchasing another Teams Shared Space license.

BYOD rooms

BYOD rooms are rooms or spaces without already-licensed Teams technology. You don’t have to assign a Teams Shared Space license to these spaces but, if you do, you get usage analytics in the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal. In the same way as with the desks, you purchase a Teams Shared Space license and can then acquire 3 of the free Teams Shared Space – Single Space licenses to assign to a total of 4 BYOD rooms.

Included service plans

The Teams Shared Space – Single Space includes the following service plans:

  • Microsoft Intune Plan 2
  • Exchange Online Plan 2 (for cloud-based voicemail capabilities only)

History

The Teams Shared Devices license was rebranded to the Teams Shared Space license as part of the wider Teams licensing changes which came into effect on April 1, 2026. At that time the Teams Shared Space – Single Space license was also introduced.
