Microsoft 365 Business plan licenses (original)

Overview

When the Microsoft 365 Business Basic/Standard/Premium plans were originally launched, they were the same for organizations all over the world, with Teams included as part of the suites. Today there are versions of the plans that don’t include Teams, and any customer may choose to buy the licenses with or without Teams. 

The table below gives an overview of the different plans that do include Teams. Customers should choose Microsoft 365 Apps for Business if they need their users to install the Microsoft 365 Apps (the familiar Office applications), or choose Microsoft 365 Business Basic if they just need their users to use browser-based apps with Online Services like Exchange Online or Teams. Microsoft 365 Business Standard, in effect, combines these plans, and Microsoft 365 Business Premium adds on Windows 11 Pro as well as further security, compliance, and management tools. On December 4, 2025, Microsoft announced new features coming to the Microsoft 365 Business plans, with full details available in a downloadable Partner Launch Kit. The additions started to roll out from July 2026, and are summarized in the table below:
