Agent 365

Overview

Agent 365 was launched by Microsoft in May 2026. It’s a control plane for AI Agents, helping businesses to deploy, organize, and govern AI Agents securely. It gives each AI Agent its own Microsoft Entra Agent ID for identity, lifecycle, and access management, and allows Agents to be observable and managed in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

From a licensing perspective it’s important to note that every Agent is tied to a human as an owner, user, sponsor, or manager. Thus, Agent 365 is a license for a human user to make sure that all the Agents tied to them are licensed to take advantage of the features of Agent 365. Agent 365 is available as a standalone User SL or is included in Microsoft 365 E7.

Resources

On February 16, 2026 Microsoft launched a new Agent 365 blog for guidance, resources, and insights with the aim of helping customers to scale AI Agents with confidence. There’s also an overview and interactive demo on the Agent 365 website, and some useful FAQs here. In addition, partners can access an Agent 365 Licensing Guide here.

History

Agent 365 was announced by Microsoft in November 2025 and was in preview in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center through the early-access Frontier program. When you tried it out, 25 Agent 365 licences were provisioned to your tenant for assignment to Agents, as shown below. At the time this led to some confusion as to whether Agent 365 was licensed per Agent or per human user:

On March 9, 2026 Microsoft announced that Agent 365 would be available on May 1, 2026, priced at $15 per human user per month.
