Microsoft have updated the Power Platform licensing resources multiple times throughout September 2026.

Copilot Credits Guide – September 2026

Microsoft have updated the Copilot Credits Guide (four times!) for September 2026.

App building is the focus this month, with a key update covering Apps in Copilot Cowork, a feature that’s part of the early-access Microsoft Frontier Program. The guide covers details of App creation using natural language, billing, and hosting, and includes a useful illustration of its estimated Copilot Credits usage. The third update of the month adds a new section on Apps in Microsoft Copilot Studio, a feature in Paid Public Preview, covering usage-based billing for building, hosting, running, and managing Apps, its inclusion in the Power Apps Premium licence, and cost estimation. The fourth version features an updated term for the Microsoft-hosted cloud infrastructure, renaming “Microsoft-managed host” to “Copilot Managed Runtime Host”, along with an added section providing further details.

A flurry of other changes includes added terms, prerequisites, and useful links throughout.

Don’t forget the “What’s New” feature in our Licensing Guides Gallery, where we provide an overview of all the important changes. Subscribers can find all versions of the PDF guide here: https://bit.ly/4xPrgVI, alongside the ever-popular Cautionary Notes to navigate the errors we’ve discovered. Apps in Copilot Studio and Copilot Cowork

Microsoft announce App building in Copilot Studio and Copilot Cowork, alongside the existing options of Agents and Workflows.

With rollout starting in September, users in the early-access Frontier Program can use natural language to create, edit, and publish Apps that optionally use organisational data. It’s all enabled by the GitHub Copilot Harness and that means that both the building of the Apps and running them consumes Copilot Credits. As you’d hope, admins can manage the App policies and stats in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Copilot Credits Guide

There’s a July version of the Copilot Credits Guide following its introduction to the world in June.

The main focus is a change to the estimated Copilot Credits consumed by Light, Medium, and Heavy Copilot Cowork tasks on page 7. Now, a Light task is estimated to consume at least 100 Copilot Credits (up from 70), and a Heavy task is anything over 700 (down from 1,500). The content of the Copilot Credits Guide is also available at a Licensing Guidance site, but note that this site isn’t yet updated for the changes in the Guide.

You can grab the guide here: https://bit.ly/4oYfnsN or, if you’re a subscriber, use our Licensing Guides Gallery. This is a splendid tool to help you quickly get the full rundown of everything that’s new in the Guide as well as any “Cautionary Notes”, along with filters to view both the Licensing Guides and Licensing Guidance site.

Copilot Cowork latest resources

Microsoft continue to release waves of updated resources for Copilot Cowork.

The latest partner-focused material provides updated launch information, practical customer tools, and bite sized training to help confidently position and sell Copilot Cowork. Customer facing resources include a surprisingly comprehensive website with information on when to use Cowork, scenarios, prompting, rollout guidance, and security and governance.

Managing and controlling spend is understandably a hot topic, and Microsoft provide a useful Customer Cowork Estimator spreadsheet and Cowork Credit Planning Model to help predict Copilot Credits usage, forecast monthly costs, and plan budgets using customisable user scenarios.

Copilot Cowork now GA

Microsoft announce the general availability of Copilot Cowork.

Rather than just another standalone Agent, Copilot Cowork is an “agentic system” that lets you execute complex, long-running tasks in the background, powered by Work IQ. Unlike a standard Copilot prompt, you can hand off multi-step workflows and watch the results unfold. For example, it can pull marketing reports from a SharePoint folder, review and compare data, or build complete PowerPoint decks. In terms of licensing, you’ll need a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and consumption-based billing configured.

This uses the familiar currency of Copilot Credits, consuming varied amounts based on the task complexity. To assist with understanding potential costs, Microsoft encourage you to categorise likely tasks as Light, Medium, or Heavy, and provide a useful Customer Cowork Estimator spreadsheet. Here you can supply the numbers of users and amount of Light/Medium/Heavy tasks to generate an estimated average price per user per month. Find that spreadsheet here: https://bit.ly/4uLQQIF.
