Shared Mode

Overview

Windows 365 Frontline Shared Mode is for when you want to provision a single Cloud PC which lots of people need to use, one at a time, on an ad hoc basis, perhaps for a specific task. As an example, imagine that Fuchsia Fancy Dress Hire have a single device in their retail store which sales staff use to check inventory – only 1 person logs in at a time and when they sign out all user data is deleted.

Historical note: Microsoft announced the public preview of Shared Mode in November 2024, and made it generally available in April 2025.

Concurrency limit

The maximum number of active Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PC sessions in an organization is equal to the number of Windows 365 Frontline licenses that have been purchased. The active sessions are managed automatically, so that when a user signs off from a Cloud PC, the session is released for another user to start using that Cloud PC. There is no notion of a concurrency buffer when using Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PCs in Shared Mode.

Resizing

Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PCs in Shared Mode cannot be resized.

Disaster Recovery

There is no data persistence between Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PC sessions when running in Shared Mode and so there are no disaster recovery options.
