Windows 10

Overview

According to Microsoft’s support policy, the Microsoft 365 Apps are not supported on operating systems that have reached their end of support dates. This includes Windows 10 which came to end of support on October 14, 2025. This means that the Microsoft 365 Apps don’t programmatically receive security and feature updates if customers continue to run them on a Windows 10 device. However, Microsoft have made exceptions and updated their guidance as below.

Feature updates

Feature updates provide new capabilities and performance improvements. Microsoft confirmed in June 2025 that if a customer chooses to run the Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10, the feature updates will continue, but only until a certain date. The last version of the Microsoft 365 Apps to receive these feature updates will be Version 2608. The dates of release for this version are as follows:

  • August 2026 for the Current Channel (including all versions for individuals and families)
  • October 13, 2026 for the Monthly Enterprise Channel
  • January 12, 2027 for the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel

Security updates

Security updates address security vulnerabilities and critical bugs that could put data or systems at risk. Microsoft have confirmed that security updates to the Microsoft 365 Apps running on Windows 10 will continue on a separate schedule to the feature updates, and will be provided until October 10, 2028.

Windows 10 Extended Security Updates

Running the Microsoft 365 Apps on Windows 10 does not enable security updates for Windows 10 itself, and customers should purchase Windows 10 Extended Security Updates, available for up to three years after the end of support date of October 14, 2025.
