Dataverse and Operations capacity

Overview

Use of Dynamics 365 Project Operations requires data storage capacity. This is made up of two types of capacity: Operations (the traditional ERP capacity) and Dataverse (the newer Power Platform capacity). When you purchase Dynamics 365 Project Operations licenses you receive default capacity entitlements for the tenant, and then you accrue further capacity with every additional license that you purchase. You can find a useful table in the Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide which details all these allowances – search for “Default subscription capacity included per tenant”.

Default capacity entitlements

A Dynamics 365 Project Operations license includes these default capacity entitlements:

  • 90 GB Dataverse/Operations Database capacity
  • 80 GB Dataverse/Operations File capacity
  • 2 GB Dataverse Log capacity
Accrued capacity entitlements

When you purchase licenses to support a Project Operations deployment, you receive additional capacity entitlements.

Each Dynamics 365 Project Operations license accrues these capacity entitlements:

  • 5 GB Dataverse/Operations Database capacity
  • 5 GB Dataverse/Operations File capacity

Each Dynamics 365 Operations-Activity license accrues these capacity entitlements:

  • 1 GB Dataverse/Operations Database capacity
  • 2 GB Dataverse/Operations File capacity
Further capacity

Customers requiring further Dataverse capacity can purchase Dataverse Database, File and Log Capacity Add-ons in increments of 1 GB. In July 2024 a Tier 2 SKU was added for Dataverse Database capacity, where customers can buy a minimum of 1,000 units of 1 GB capacity for a more cost-effective unit price. You’ll find purchasing minimums in the Product Terms.

Operations Database Capacity and File Capacity Add-ons are also available in increments of 1 GB.

History

Up until December 2025, allocations for Dataverse and Operations capacity were separate entitlements and were capped separately. Since then, it’s a pooled entitlement for storage capacity that can be used for either Dataverse or Operations. At the same time, the default Dataverse Database capacity for a Dynamics 365 Project Operations license was increased from 10 GB to 30 GB, and the default Dataverse File capacity was increased from 20 GB to 40 GB.
