Visual Studio 2022 Standard subscriptions
Visual Studio subscriptions are assigned to an individual user who is typically a developer and needs tools to create and test applications. A Visual Studio subscription gives these users access to the Visual Studio software – the Integrated Development Environment or IDE – and a whole host of benefits. There are two ways of buying these Visual Studio subscriptions. Firstly, they can be purchased as a license with Software Assurance through a Volume Licensing agreement, and these are known as Standard subscriptions. Secondly, they’re available as Cloud subscriptions which are monthly subscriptions and are purchased against an Azure Subscription. Standard subscriptions are covered in this section, and if you need information on the Cloud subscriptions, you can find details in this section.
There are four Visual Studio 2022 Standard subscriptions available, aimed at the different users who will participate in software development projects:
There are three main parts to a Visual Studio subscription in terms of what’s available to the licensed user:
- The Visual Studio 2022 Integrated Development Environment (IDE) where developers create their apps
- Access to Azure DevOps on-premises and/or cloud solutions
- Subscriber benefits such as Azure credit, access to software for Dev/Test use, training and education tools, support tools, and partner offers
The Visual Studio 2022 Professional and Enterprise subscriptions are aimed at developers and are thus the only subscriptions which include the Visual Studio IDE. However, all subscriptions also include an Azure DevOps Server CAL for the licensed user and the rights to install Azure DevOps Server 2022, as well as licenses for Azure DevOps in the cloud: a Basic plan license for Visual Studio 2022 Professional users, and a Basic + Test plan license for Visual Studio 2022 Enterprise/Test Professional and MSDN Platform users.
A Visual Studio 2022 Enterprise license includes down edition rights to Professional edition.
