Visual Studio 2022 Cloud subscriptions

Visual Studio subscriptions are assigned to an individual user who is typically a developer and needs tools to create and test applications. A Visual Studio subscription gives these users access to the Visual Studio software – the Integrated Development Environment or IDE – and a whole host of benefits. There are two ways of buying these Visual Studio subscriptions. Firstly, they can be purchased as a license with Software Assurance through a Volume Licensing agreement, and these are known as Standard subscriptions. Secondly, they’re available as Cloud subscriptions which are monthly subscriptions and are purchased against an Azure Subscription. Cloud subscriptions are the focus of this section, and if you need information on the Standard subscriptions, you can find details in in this section.

There are just two Visual Studio 2022 Cloud subscriptions, both aimed at developers:

  • Visual Studio 2022 Professional
  • Visual Studio 2022 Enterprise

Both of these subscriptions give access to the Visual Studio 2022 software, but the rights to the Visual Studio tools are not perpetual and end when the subscription ends. Both subscriptions also include an Azure DevOps Server 2022 CAL for the licensed user and the rights to install Azure DevOps Server 2022, as well as licenses for Azure DevOps in the cloud: a Basic plan license for Visual Studio Professional users, and a Basic + Test plan license for Visual Studio Enterprise users.

Visual Studio 2022 Cloud subscriptions don’t include the wide range of subscriber benefits, such as rights to install software for Dev/Test purposes, as the Visual Studio 2022 Standard subscriptions do, but licensed users are able to take advantage of Azure Dev/Test pricing.
