LICENSING AZURE STACK (AZURE LOCAL) SOLUTIONS
Azure Stack solutions enable customers to extend the Azure services and capabilities to their own environments, whether that’s a data center, an edge location, or a remote office. There are three members of the Azure Stack family:
- Azure Stack Edge (previously Azure Data Box Edge)
- Azure Stack HCI
- Azure Stack Hub (previously Azure Stack)
On November 19, 2024 Microsoft announced Azure Local, which is essentially the evolution of Azure Stack enabled by Azure Arc. At that time, Azure Stack HCI was renamed to Azure Local with no impact to customers on either pricing or licensing.
Azure Stack Edge and Azure Stack Hub currently remain as the original solutions. However, there are “lower-spec hardware” and “disconnected operations” solutions in preview in Azure Local which will be the Azure Localization of these Azure Stack components in due course.
