{"id":119169,"date":"2019-08-12T08:30:55","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T07:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.licensingschool.co.uk\/licensing-blog\/?p=119169"},"modified":"2019-08-12T07:59:30","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T06:59:30","slug":"changes-to-the-azure-hybrid-benefit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.licensingschool.co.uk\/licensing-blog\/2019\/08\/12\/changes-to-the-azure-hybrid-benefit\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to the Azure Hybrid Benefit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The August 2019\nProduct Terms details some changes to the Azure Hybrid Benefit to include\nlicensing options for the recently announced Azure Dedicated Host, so here\u2019s a\nsummary of the rules for both Windows Server and SQL Server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Windows Server<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Standard licences may now be used on-premises OR for virtual machines running\nin Azure OR for virtual machines running in an Azure Dedicated Host. The licensing\nfor both Azure and Azure Dedicated Host follow the \u201cgroups of 8\u201d rules. Licenses\nmay now be assigned to both on-premises servers and Azure for a period of 180\ndays for migration purposes \u2013 this is an increase from the previous 31-day\nallowance<\/li><li>Datacenter licences may now be used on-premises AND for virtual machines\nrunning in Azure (no change) OR for virtual machines running in an Azure\nDedicated Host. Customers can choose to license individual virtual machines\nrunning in Azure Dedicated Host following the \u201cgroups of 8\u201d rules, or can\nlicense all the physical cores of the Azure Dedicated Host and run an unlimited\nnumber of virtual machines. Customers moving from on-premises to Azure\nDedicated Host have the same 180-day migration window as Standard licences<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SQL Server<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Standard licences may now be used on-premises OR for virtual machines\nrunning in Azure OR for Azure SQL Database Services OR for virtual machines\nrunning in an Azure Dedicated Host. The licensing rules for Azure Dedicated\nHost are the same as for virtual machines running in Azure. There is no change\nto the 180-day migration period allowed when moving from an on-premises to an\nAzure infrastructure<\/li><li>Enterprise licences may be used in the same scenarios as the Standard\nlicences above.
