Microsoft announce\nthat from 1 October, 2019 there will be changes to how dedicated hosted cloud\nservices are licensed. Currently there aren\u2019t any specific rules for dedicated\ncloud services and so the rules used have been the ones that have always\napplied to on-premises servers managed by an outsourcer but dedicated to a\ncustomer\u2019s use. These rules state that as long as the hardware is dedicated to\na customer, then a customer can bring their own licences to that hardware.\nThere has been no requirement for Software Assurance or any other sort of\neligibility criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing licences\nretain these rights, but licences purchased after 1 October, 2019 will be\nsubject to new rules, when used with dedicated hardware from a small set of\nhosting organisations defined as \u201cListed Providers\u201d \u2013 Microsoft, Alibaba,\nAmazon, and Google. Essentially, you\u2019ll now need Software Assurance on your\nlicences. The License Mobility benefit is updated to include both multi-tenant\nand dedicated services from these providers, and the Azure Hybrid Benefit is\nupdated to include deployment to the newly announced Azure Dedicated Host.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
