{"id":6837,"date":"2025-11-11T15:46:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T15:46:26","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2026-02-27T12:41:41","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T12:41:41","slug":"extended-service-term","status":"publish","type":"lessons","link":"https:\/\/www.licensingschool.co.uk\/licenseverse\/buying-online-services-csp-nce\/extended-service-term\/","title":{"rendered":"Extended Service Term"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Extended Service Term<\/a> (EST) is a feature in CSP available from <strong>May 4, 2026<\/strong>, that allows an expired Subscription to keep running with continued service, billed at an uplifted rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before the Extended Service Term availability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the introduction of the Extended Service Term, at the end of a Subscription term, a partner would work with a customer to manage their next steps by choosing from one of two <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=Today%2C%20after%20a%20subscription%20expires%2C%20partners%20have%20two%20options%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">options<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Auto-Renew on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Auto-Renew off<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If Auto-Renew is turned on, users continue to have access to the services, and a new Subscription is started using the existing term and billing option. Prices from the current price list apply at this stage. If Auto-Renew is turned off, there\u2019s a 30-day <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=a%20grace%20period%20of%20free%20service%20for%20a%20limited%20time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">grace period<\/a> during which users continue to have access to the services without charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After the Extended Service Term availability<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After the introduction of the Extended Service Term, at the end of a Subscription term, a partner can work with a customer to manage their next steps by choosing from one of three <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=In%20the%20future%20state%2C%20the%20free%20grace%20period%20is%20eliminated%2C%20and%20partners\/customers%20must%20choose%20to%3A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">options<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Renews to new term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Renews to Extended Service Term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cancels at end of term<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Renews to new term<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The experience with this option is the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=Renew%20the%20subscription%20works%20like%20it%20always%20has\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">same<\/a> as the \u201cAuto-Renew on\u201d option from before the Extended Service Term availability, while the other two options are new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Renews to Extended Service Term<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>This option is designed to give partners a <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=These%20monthly%20terms%20are%20more%20flexible%20than%20other%20new%20commerce%20monthly%20subscription%20terms%2C%20allowing%20the%20partner%20to%20cancel%20at%20any%20point%20during%20the%20EST%20term\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flexible<\/a> way to make changes at any time while a customer determines their next steps. Until this happens, upfront monthly billing continues at the current monthly term&nbsp;rate <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=3%25%20uplift%20(or%2023%25%20if%20no%20monthly%20plan%20exists)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">plus<\/a> an uplift of 3%, or 23% if a monthly term option doesn\u2019t exist. This means that when a customer is ready, they can work with their partner to move to another option by <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=canceling%20at%20any%20time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">canceling<\/a> the Extended Service Term at any time for a pro-rated refund. The Extended Service Term licenses are transacted using specific <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=ESTs%20are%20implemented%20as%20new%20monthly%20term%20SKUs%20that%20subscriptions%20can%20convert%20to%20if%20a%20partner%20selects%20the%20option\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SKUs<\/a> that partners will find on an <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=to%20other%20SKUs.-,EST%20price%20lists,-Extended%20service%20term\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EST price list<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cancels at end of term<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>This is similar to the previous &#8220;Auto-Renew off&#8221; option from before the Extended Service Term availability, but <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms#:~:text=stops%20customer%27s%20services%20at%20the%20end%20of%20the%20term\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">without<\/a> the 30-day grace period, which means access to the services will stop immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/partner-center\/customers\/extended-service-terms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Microsoft Learn documentation<\/a> is updated regularly and provides a useful overview, timelines, and API details.
